To mark this special day, Virginia Bevan, our Compliance Officer discusses her decision to train as a Mental Health First Aider.
When I heard the firm was offering Mental Health First Aid training, I was keen to be involved. Everyone has experienced low mental health, either personally or through loved ones and is an initiative that resonates with so many of us and one that I feel strongly about and one I advocate.
The training session Hayward Moon offered proved invaluable and it was refreshing to see a firm take such positive steps in actively supporting their staff. We are trained to be there to step in when someone is experiencing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. We ensure our colleague is safe, supported and effectively providing ‘first aid’ for emotional wellbeing. We have the tools to signpost colleagues in need to support services.
The Mental Health First Aiders believe World Mental Health Day is a step forward in raising awareness of mental health and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health and wellbeing.
The more we talk about mental health, the more we show that it matters. It is ok not to be ok! We should all be comfortable in the knowledge we are supported, in and out of our workplace.
